BOOSTING EDUCATION, FOSTERING PETS

The San Francisco Opera Guild – Marin Chapter staged a very successful Champagne Gala on Aug. 5 at San Dominico School’s Hall of the Arts in San Anselmo. 125 people attended the concert featuring Adler Fellows of the San Francisco Opera company performing arias from nine operas. The event raised over $3,000 for various programs, including Opera a la Carte, which provides students in Marin schools with live performances of an abridged opera that is performed by professional musicians with speaking parts for the students.  Named for Kurt Herbert Adler, San Francisco Opera’s legendary former general director, the Adler Fellowship Program is a multi-year performance-oriented residency for opera’s most promising young artists. The Adler Fellows who performed  are (left to right) Ashley Dixon, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Sarah Cambidge, Natalie Image, Andrew Manea, Cesar Canon and Christian Pursell.   -Photo courtesy of San Francisco Opera Guild-Marin Chapter

Over 800 children are served through the Marin Head Start,  Early Head Start  and Marin Child Development Programs.  Enrollment is now open for child care programs at camarin.org.   -Photo courtesy of Community Action Marin

Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue strives to eliminate the euthanasia of cats and dogs through rescue and spay/neuter programs. Volunteers provide foster care while animals await adoption, and rides to vet appointments and adoption events. Pictured are rescued kittens who are looking for forever homes. Find out about fostering or adopting pets at hopalong.org.     -Photo courtesy of Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue
