NONPROFITS AID IN FIRE RELIEF, FOOD COLLECTION

FIRE RELIEF DONATION: Marin Center for Independent Living’s executive team ( Eli Gelardin, Kathleen Woodcock and Susan Malardino) presented a $20,000 check to state Sen. Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg)  on Jan. 5 in support of fire relief victims in the North Bay. At the nonprofit’s annual gala, Angels by the Bay, where Sen. McGuire acts as auctioneer, the Center for Independent Living was honored to surprise him with a Fund A Need benefiting those devastated by the fire. SAVING NUTRITIOUS FOOD: ExtraFood.org founder Marv Zauderer has been named a Silver Jefferson Award for Public Service winner for his work leading ExtraFood’s countywide food recovery program. In four years, ExtraFood has recovered and delivered 1.6 million pounds of food from more than 200 Marin businesses and schools to 100 partner sites throughout the county. They reach more than 6,000 vulnerable people every month with nutritious, fresh food, including fresh produce, prepared food, dairy products, eggs, meat, packaged goods and baked goods. Along with four other Bay Area winners, Zauderer will be nominated for a national Jefferson Award, with winners to be named in June.
