RESCUE AND REHABILITATION WITH TLC

The Marine Mammal Center’s mission is to advance global ocean conservation through marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation, scientific research and education. Volunteer Kathy Blackwell (top) tosses a bucket of fish to a pool of California sea lions rehabilitating at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. During the height of the busy season, animal care crews at the center can go through over 1,000 pounds of sustainably caught herring per day feeding seal and sea lion patients. Volunteer Ted Milden (bottom) positions a herding board in front of members of the public as a rehabilitated northern elephant seal exits its carrier during a release at Drakes Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore.  -Bill Hunnewell © The Marine Mammal Center

WildCare is a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and nature education. Its Terwilliger nature education programs reach more than 40,000 Bay Area children and adults every year, and its wildlife hospital treats nearly 4,000 ill, injured and orphaned wild patients each year. Volunteers assist staff round the clock, feeding baby animals. Volunteers  help with many ongoing rehabilitation and education programs.
