MARIN NONPROFITS IN ACTION

The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito advances global ocean conservation through marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation, scientific research and education. . Syzygy Dance Project Founder Sylvie Minot (above) burns sage before a sound healing benefit event in San Rafael on Dec. 16. The event supported the organization’s movement and dance programs for veterans, inmates, women in recovery, the elderly and people with chronic illness. Minot leads weekly 5Rhythms dance classes on Wednesdays at MLK Gym in Sausalito. Syzygy Dance Project will offer an Outreach Facilitator training, Feb. 6-10, to support others in bringing dance classes to various underserved populations. The Mountain Play auditions for the summer 2019 production of “Grease” will take place on Jan. 13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or Jan. 14, 5-10 p.m., by appointment. Be prepared for a three minute read and sing audition with dance auditions to follow. Actors who will be a minimum age of 14 by the first rehearsal on April 1, 2019, will be considered. Performances dates will be May 19, 26,  and June 2, 8, 9,  and 16 at Cushing Memorial Amphitheater on Mount Tamalpais. No One Eats Alone Day is an annual Beyond Differences event that teaches middle and high school students how to make friends at lunch. This event, created and organized by students, focuses on inclusion and takes place in schools in all 50 states. This year’s event will be held on Feb. 15.
