NONPROFITS SHINE AT GIVING MARIN EVENT

The Giving Marin Community Partnership held a dinner event on Feb. 21 at Insalata’s Restaurant in San Anselmo. The restaurant was chosen because of chef-owner Heidi Krahling’s decades of philanthropic work in Marin. Guests enjoyed Mediterranean food and music performed by members of the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra. State Sen. Mike McGuire spoke at the event and gave each partner a certificate of recognition for their contributions to helping Marin nonprofits through the Giving Marin program. Pictured (above, left to right) are Marin IJ Publisher and President Rob Devincenzi, Corbin Glover, violin, Chris Simon Boyadjiev, flute, Bethany Iwami, cello, Giving Marin Coordinator Liz Saint John and Sen. McGuire.

The Giving Marin Community Partnership recognized its generous partners, College of Marin, CPi Developers, Fairview Capital, Ghilotti Bros., Inc., Kaiser Permanente, Mercedes-Benz of Marin, Nugget Markets, Redwood Credit Union and Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical with certificates of recognition from Sen. McGuire and custom table lanterns made by Autistry Studios in San Rafael. Autistry Studios has a variety of creative, educational and employment programs for teens and adults with autism, Asperger’s and other learning differences.

Members of the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra performed for the Giving Marin event. The youth orchestra provides musicians ages 13-18 with the opportunity to participate in an orchestral community. The September-to-May season offers a range of performances and experiences. The orchestra is composed of approximately 80 auditioned high school and middle school musicians from Marin, Sonoma, and San Francisco. The Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra is raising money to travel and perform in Europe this summer, its first overseas tour in 20 years. An online auction fundraiser is open until March 25 at biddingowl.com/Auction/home.cfm?auctionID=17036. The Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform with the Marin Symphony on March 24 at 3 p.m. at the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
