The Spahr Center is Marin’s non-profit community agency devoted to serving, supporting and empowering our LGBTQ community and everyone in the county living with and affected by HIV. Services include free and confidential HIV testing, medical case management, benefits advocacy, mental health counseling and psychiatric services, emergency financial assistance, transportation assistance, a food pantry, a syringe access program and a wide variety of supportive groups. LGBTQ programs include outreach, community building and drop-in groups for LGBTQ youth and young adults; parent support groups focusing on gender fluid and expansive youth; mental health counseling; discussion groups and social activities for LGBT seniors and more.
The front desk is staffed by volunteers. The shifts are 9am – 1 pm or 1pm – 5pm Monday – Friday. Most volunteers work one shift per week. Volunteers receive an orientation. Main duties include greeting clients in the lobby and directing them to their appointments, answering phone calls, providing information and referral when necessary, and assisting clients who visit the Spahr Center food pantry and the syringe access site.
