ExtraFood and Homeward Bound of Marin served Marin’s Coast Guard families who were without federal income for more than a month and had not yet received back pay as of Jan. 31, the date of this event. Homeward Bound served the families a sit-down dinner at Homeward Bound’s Next Key Center, with ice cream provided by ExtraFood through its partnership with Three Twins. Through the generosity of food donors in ExtraFood’s Community Meals program, ExtraFood provided the families with a complete meal to take home. ExtraFood donors included Nugget Markets’s Novato store, Whole Foods Market’s Miller Avenue Mill Valley store, Whole Foods Market’s San Rafael store, Woodlands Market’s Kentfield store, Safeway Community Markets in San Anselmo, Mangia Nosh Catering, A Fork Full of Earth Catering, Three Twins, and Insalata’s. Diane Lawton-Apple and Dale Apple (above) delivered 130 “Blossoms for Barbara” to Hospice by the Bay in time for Valentine’s Day. Since 2012, the couple has created thousands of hand-decorated flower gifts to brighten the lives of hospice patients and residents of senior living facilities, all in honor of Diane’s late mother, Barbara. Says Diane, “It’s a good feeling. My favorite part is the looks on their faces, the expressions. It’s nice to bring a little joy to them.”-Photo courtesy of Hospice by the Bay
