Beyond Differences celebrated 10 years of inspiring students to end social isolation and make middle schools more welcoming for every student with its virtual gala, “Now More Than Ever,” on May 15. Approximately 200 guests joined online with student leaders, special guest San Francisco Mayor London Breed and a special performance by Michael Franti and his wife Sara Agha Franti (above).
KCBS Foodie Chap Liam Mayclem (above) served as auctioneer and helped raise more than $150,000. The funds will help Beyond Differences continue to provide free original curriculum and materials to more than 6,100 schools in 50 states for its Positive Prevention Initiatives. Sanzuma has organic gardens and orchards that provide produce for public school lunches in San Rafael and Novato. Due to COVID-19, the need for school lunches is diminished so the organization pivoted to provide the food to about 70 families that would not otherwise have access to fresh produce. Along with fruits and vegetables, Sanzuma includes other necessary items and some comfort items as well, all delivered safely to the families. Recent grants allow Sanzuma to continue this service for a few more weeks but then the organization will need donations to continue providing food. Visit sanzuma.org to make a donation. -Photo courtesy of Sanzuma
