SUPPORT FOR VETERANS, GROCERY WORKERS

San Rafael Elks 1108 had an outdoor brunch on Nov. 8 where 20 veterans were invited as guests, enjoying food and fellowship. Ongoing Elks Veterans outreach programs offer tangible help, such as “Welcome Home Grants,” gift and gas cards, food, including Thanksgiving dinners, other donated items plus moral support and community connection, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. For information about how you can help, contact Elks Veterans Committee Chair Peter Behr at behrcredserv@yahoo.com or go to Elks1108.org. Jessica Hurtado-Hansel (above top, left), marketing and communications director of Good Earth Natural Foods, received a basket of 170 appreciation  “love bug” stones, one for every employee, from Good Fairy Marin’s founder, Penny Macphail. Good Fairy launched Project Love Bug on Labor Day with a delivery of 250 bugs to its sister store in Fairfax, and asked Marin’s schools, retirement communities, shelter-in-place folks and volunteer groups to paint enough bugs to boost the morale of every unsung hero of the frontline serving in grocery stores in our county. The project draws to a close with the holidays having delivering more than 2,000 stones to many stores including Nugget Markets, Costco, Lucky, Trader Joe’s, Woodlands Market as well as “mom and pop” stores and farm stands. The final deliveries will honor food bank staff and volunteers. More painted stones are needed. Find out how to help at goodfairy.org.  -Photos courtesy of Caitlin Smitha
