Vivalon (formerly known as Whistlestop), a San Rafael-based nonprofit that promotes independence and quality of life for older adults and people living with disabilities, announced that its Soirée d’Élégance event raised $420,000 to support Vivalon’s CarePool volunteer driver program. The black-tie 1920s inspired fundraising event was held Nov. 6 at a private automobile collection venue in San Rafael.
Vivalon’s CarePool program offers free rides to Marin County residents 65 or older and people with disabilities to medical appointments or grocery stores. The program provides about 2,000 rides per year to approximately 740 participants in need of transportation. Funds raised at Vivalon’s Soirée d’Élégance will help the organization’s goal of doubling the number of rides provided in 2022.
“In Marin, many older adults miss medical appointments, face malnutrition or isolation due to a lack of accessible and affordable transportation. These factors contribute to a decline in health and a poor quality of life,” said Anne Grey, Vivalon CEO. “CarePool’s caring volunteers and committed team at Vivalon ensure that there are safe and reliable rides available for those in need.”
Soirée d’Élégance guests congregated among classic automobiles and art deco inspired decor, while a string trio performed. The gourmet dinner was prepared by Stacy Scott, owner of Stacy Scott Catering and culinary director at Vivalon’s Jackson Café. Wine was provided by Gary Farrell.
Vivalon’s Soirée d’Élégance underwriters included Dennis and Becca Ryan, Lauren Elkin and Sherri Jacobs from Valley Memorial Park, Bruce Raabe from Relevant Wealth, and Dennis Fisco from Montecito Plaza. Table sponsors included Jeri Dexter, Patty and Peter Knuth, Harbor Point Charitable Foundation, Susan and Dennis Gilardi and Ken and Joan Gosliner. Soirée d’Élégance committee members included Tom Bonomi, Walt Buster, Charlie Goodman, Ken Gosliner, Sherri Jacobs, Douglas Reilly and Bill Tichy.
