NGS WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

As a once-undocumented refugee living in Marin’s low-income housing, Nghiem Bui is the first Next Generation Scholars alumnus to become the organization’s executive director.

Nghiem, who replaces Jeff Escabar, brings two decades of experience empowering underserved communities, including leading orientation programming at Boston College and teaching abroad in Ecuador at El Centro del Muchacho Trabajador (Center for Working Families). Additionally, he earned a master’s in education from Northwestern University while teaching kindergarteners from 10 countries on the southside of Chicago.

For the past six years, he’s served as NGS’ director of strategic college and career design, ensuring 100% of the program scholars earned acceptance at four-year universities.

“This is an exciting time for NGS. Just as we encourage our Scholars to foster their knowledge and self-awareness as building blocks to a more meaningful future, we are doing the same as an organization. And just as our Scholars require support and teamwork to be successful, our staff, board of directors, families, and Nghiem will be working together to ensure the ongoing growth and success of NGS,”  said Rose Jennings Newhouse, director of philanthropy.
