Marin Villages held its second annual pop-up thrift event Oct. 6-10 at the Northgate mall in San Rafael. An assortment of clothing, accessories, games, sports equipment, housewares, home décor items, furniture and more was donated by the Villagers.
The yearly event has multiple goals: to reuse and repurpose gently used items at affordable prices; to give visibility to Marin Villages’ mission empowering more than 500 older adults to remain independent and age-in-place in their own homes as long as they can; and to raise money to support its year-round volunteer-led services. These services include addressing social isolation, health, errands, handyman fixes in the home, staying active and socializing with friends.
“Don’t ever underestimate what a group of inspired volunteers can do if you let them — ours imagined a rummage sale that quickly morphed into a stylish boutique with bargain-basement prices,” said John Power, executive director, Marin Villages. “Our Villagers were glad to declutter or repurpose what they no longer needed, filling 10,000 square feet of retail space at Northgate mall. We sold out in five days and raised double what we did last year!” For more information about Marin Villages, visit marinvillages.org.
