Construction for Vivalon’s Healthy Aging Campus in downtown San Rafael is on schedule, after years of planning and preparatory stages. The construction team is hammering the final pieces of lumber, traditionally commemorated as a “topping off,” after which the work on the interior of the Healthy Aging Campus will formally begin.
On Dec. 16, Vivalon held the Healthy Aging Campus Topping Off Ceremony to recognize the organization’s intentions for the future inhabitants of the building.
Donors who contributed $25,000 or more were invited to this special event where they had the opportunity to reflect on why they supported the project. They proceeded by writing their names and best wishes onto a beam of wood that was nailed up to symbolically hold their wishes and intentions for the residents and guests of the Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus for years to come.
Vivalon CEO Anne Grey, Dennis Gilardi and Vivalon board President Beth Reizman led remarks at the Topping Off Ceremony. Other special guests in attendance included Assemblymember Damon Connolly, former San Rafael Mayor Gary Phillips, Summer Cassel of state Sen. Mike McGuire’s office, and Susie Criscimagna of Eden Housing.
The Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus will include a Healthy Aging and Integrated Care Clinic that will combine traditional medical services with coordinated care, social engagement, learning opportunities, nutrition services and activities and programs designed to promote healthy aging. Additionally, the campus will include 67 units of 100% affordable senior homes, in partnership with Eden Housing. The campus is scheduled to open in 2023. For more information, visit vivalon.org.
