Giving Marin grant recipient Postpartum Support Center held its annual Walk For Moms on May 21 at Lagoon Park in San Rafael, celebrating Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month.

The event included distribution of diapers, wipes, clothes and books to families including almost 300 children. Additionally, families in need, service providers, community members, donors and supporters gathered to create a larger support system for the perinatal community.

The Walk For Moms raises awareness about postpartum depression and provides support and supplies to client families.

“Sharing our personal struggles and framing them as strengths rather than weaknesses was an overall message we wanted to get out,” said Ivana Jagodic, founder and executive director of Postpartum Support Center. “No one makes it through this life without help and we want our community to feel safe and encouraged to come forward and ask for that help, whatever that might be.”

The event also raised funds to support perinatal families including free perinatal mental health peer support services and postpartum depression support and care.  For more information, visit postpartumsc.org.
