More than 200 families and supporters of Next Generation Scholars attended its annual event on May 21, The Read and Reveal. NGS students shared their stories of resilience and triumph, and their plans for next year at the newly renovated and remodeled Marin Shakespeare Theater for Performing Arts, Education and Social Justice in San Rafael.

Twelve seniors revealed their enrollment decisions, including American University, Cornell and UC Santa Cruz. Branson, San Rafael High, Marin Catholic and other Marin high schools will welcome 18 graduating NGS eighth graders in the fall. The event also featured program alumni who shared their plans for law and graduate school.

“We are building an incredible community that’s contributing to a thriving community for Marin’s first generation youth and families,” NGS Executive Director and NGS alumnae Nghiem Bui said.

Next Generation Scholars equips and empowers first generation, under-resourced Marin County middle and high school students to succeed in college and beyond through socially-conscious leadership development. One hundred percent of participants are accepted to four-year colleges and universities and 95% graduate within five years.
