Fresh Starts Culinary Academy has been recognized for the third time with a grant from the Jacques Pépin Foundation. The Jacques Pépin Foundation supports free culinary and life skills training, through community based organizations, that helps individuals detached from the workforce gain confidence, skills, and employment in food service.
Based at Homeward Bound of Marin, the Fresh Starts training program provides unhoused and low-income students with core skills for up to 60 graduates each year. Along with hands-on practice in core culinary skills, students receive professional development coaching and job placement support to transition into the workforce.
Trainees each receive an apron from the foundation with Chef Jacques Pépin’s motto, “Everyone is equal in the eyes of the stove.”
