U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY HOSTS SAFETY CHECK

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, even the most cautious boaters can experience unexpected problems on the water. It recommends that all recreational boaters, including personal watercraft and paddle sport users, take advantage of the free Vessel Safety Check program every year.
On March 30, USCG Flotilla 1-4 will offer complimentary Vessel Safety Checks to any boat or watercraft owner in Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Auxiliary vehicle safety checks are complimentary no-risk inspections designed to assist watercraft owners to ensure they have all of the required and recommended safety equipment on board. The assessments usually take 30-45 minutes to complete.
Successful inspections are awarded the 2024 USCG Auxiliary safety decal. This decal alerts the Coast Guard, harbor patrol and other law enforcement agencies that the boat was found to be in full compliance with all federal and state boating laws. The Coast Guard reports that such agencies will not detain or board boats displaying a current year decal that are otherwise operating safely.
There are no negative consequences for not passing the assessment. No report is filed and boat owners are provided a written report that aids in correcting any discrepancies noted. If you are interested in scheduling an inspection, email gregcatani@att.net or visit USCG Auxiliary personnel during the assessments at Loch Lomond Yacht Club to arrange an inspection or discuss vessel safety.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed, all-volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard. Auxiliary members conduct safety patrols on local waterways, assist in search and rescue, teach boating safety classes, conduct free vessel safety checks for the public, provide boating safety literature to dealers, as well as many other activities related to recreational boating safety.
