Karma Club Teen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through education equity, future-readiness and social connectedness, partnered with TinkerTech Camps this summer to offer free STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) summer camps to underserved teens, ages 12-17, in Marin County. The initiative aimed to bridge the gap in accessibility to quality educational summer camps and provide equitable learning opportunities.
The summer camps were free to registrants thanks to a grant from the County of Marin and TinkerTech’s partnership with Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs and The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, which provides support to organizations that help individuals discover their interest in manufacturing and encourage the pursuit of a manufacturing career. Karma Club Teen donated the balance and one of their after-school program spaces inside Northgate mall to hold the camps.
“We were incredibly excited to collaborate with TinkerTech to bring these transformative STEM opportunities to teens who might not otherwise have access,” said Sally Newson, executive director of Karma Club Teen. “By providing these camps at no cost, we hope we’ve ignited a passion for STEM in our youth and open doors to future academic and career opportunities.”
The two one-week full-day camps were tailored to provide hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Curriculum included robotics, entrepreneurship, coding and engineering projects.
