Center for Domestic Peace announced the upcoming retirement of Deputy Executive Director Kate Kain, effective June 30. After 28 years of service and leadership in the fight against domestic violence, the organization said Kain will leave behind a legacy of change and impact on the lives of countless individuals in Marin County and beyond.
Since joining Center for Domestic Peace in 1997, Kain has been a cornerstone of the organization, driving initiatives that have reshaped community responses to domestic violence. Her work has included overseeing critical emergency and advocacy programs, developing prevention curricula, and fostering community efforts aimed at reducing violence against women and children. The organization said she played a key role in launching initiatives focused on prevention in the African- American community, including the program known as RAP, which focuses on preventing both domestic violence and dating violence.
Kain’s experience in social justice has been instrumental in establishing the Marin Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence Network, an initiative recognized nationally for its multi-sector approach to addressing domestic violence.
She received recognition from the California State Assembly in 1985 and was honored as a YWCA Marin Hall of Fame alumna.
“Kate Kain’s unwavering commitment and visionary leadership have left a profound impact on our community,” said Cynthia Murray, board co-chair of Center for Domestic Peace. “Her passion, resilience, and steadfast commitment to ending domestic violence have inspired countless individuals. Kate’s dedication has laid a strong foundation for our ongoing work in ending domestic violence and supporting survivors, ensuring that the impact of her efforts will be felt for years to come.”
