Charles and Barbara Goodman Foundation adds initiative to its philanthropic impacts
Giving Marin is pleased to announce a new program Sponsor, the Charles and Barbara Goodman Foundation.
The founder of the Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance, Charles Goodman serves as the chairman of Shifting Gears USA, a car rally in Northern California that benefits the Car Appreciation and Preservation Program taught at Terra Linda High School. The program is open to all high school students in Marin County.
A committed philanthropist, Goodman has also raised money to support the work of educational institutions including Dominican University, Marin School of the Arts (the specialized arts program within Novato High School) and SchoolsRule Marin, and medical institutions MarinHealth, By the Bay Health UCSF and Vivalon.
Goodman launched his career in the Bay Area in the late 1960s at Goodman Lumber Co. After more than three decades in the building industry, he turned his attention to community leadership, becoming a board member of the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning at USF and serving 12 years on the Ross Town Council, which included three terms as mayor.
A car enthusiast, Goodman began collecting cars at the age of 20 upon purchasing a 1926 Model T Ford, a vehicle he still owns. He also continues to apply his love of automobiles as a trustee on the Board of Directors of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.
