The Marin Center for Independent Living this month announced Ted Jackson as its new chief executive officer. Jackson has served as Marin CIL’s director of public policy and community engagement since 2023. During his tenure, he made local impacts on disability advocacy issues including in-home support services, community resilience for disabled people and their caregivers and protecting access to health care. His efforts also brought the administration of the Disability Organizing Network to Marin CIL, a statewide network hub that joins California’s 28 independent living centers for grassroots systems change advocacy campaigns.
A disability rights advocate and LGBTQ+ organizer with over 20 years of experience advancing public policy, civic engagement and social equity, Jackson previously served as statewide community organizing director at California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. Additionally, he served in disability and accessibility roles for the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C., the 59th Presidential Inaugural Committee and the Women’s March, where he supported accessibility for marches and national voter engagement mobilization efforts.
He serves on multiple local and statewide advisory boards and public committees focused on aging, homelessness and inclusive emergency management. As a person with a disability who also identifies as LGBTQ+, his life’s work is grounded in the belief that authentic leadership centers lived experience — and that systems must be built by and for the communities they serve.
Jackson replaces Eli Gelardin, who is director of the Mayor’s Office on Disability in San Francisco.
