ExtraFood, a Marin-based nonprofit dedicated to food recovery, has once again partnered with Elks Lodge 1108 in San Rafael to bring comfort and nourishment to food-insecure neighbors in Marin and San Francisco counties.

On Dec. 21, the collaboration will provide 1,000 turkey meals during the holiday season, including mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. In this impactful partnership, ExtraFood is leveraging its expertise in food recovery, rescuing surplus food from local businesses and donors.

Meanwhile, Elks Lodge 1108 will mobilize its dedicated kitchen staff, volunteers and resources to prepare the meals with the help of ExtraFood volunteers and staff.

These meals will be distributed in the days leading up to Christmas to community partners such as San Pedro Elementary School in Marin and Family House in San Francisco. The organizations delivered over 500 meals during the Thanksgiving holiday to organizations serving vulnerable people in our community.

“Family House families can thrive with this partnership in the community to help them through the hardest timesin their lives, said Katherine Thompson of Family House. “We can’t do all that we do without compassionate partners like ExtraFood and the San Rafael Elks.”

“This holiday season, our meal delivery program is about more than food — it’s about spreading warmth, hope, and joy to those who need it most,” added Will Dittmar, executive director of ExtraFood. “By collaborating with incredible partners like Elks Lodge 1108 and our food donors, we’re able to turn surplus food into moments of connection and care for families, seniors, and individuals facing food insecurity. Together, we’re proving that when a community comes together, we can make a meaningful difference.”

Building on the success of their holiday initiative, ExtraFood and Elks Lodge will expand their partnership in 2026 to meals regularly throughout the year, focusing on addressing hunger and reducing food waste in the Bay Area.
