PARTNERSHIP ADDRESSES HEALTH, HOUSING STABILITY

Ritter Center and Legal Aid of Marin announced the launch of the Marin Housing Justice in Health Medical-Legal Partnership, a collaborative initiative designed to address the intersection of health and housing stability for Marin County’s most marginalized residents.

The new partnership brings legal services directly into the Ritter Center, ensuring patients facing housing-related legal challenges can access timely, expert legal assistance without the barrier of navigating multiple systems.

“Stable housing is foundational to good health,” said Mark Shotwell, CEO of Ritter Center. “By bringing legal services directly to our patients, we are closing gaps that too often lead to eviction, instability, and declining health.”

“Our MLP with Ritter Center will embed critically important homelessness prevention legal aid into Ritter Center’s service structure. We will reduce the need for emergency legal aid farther down the line by intervening earlier, preventing evictions from happening in the first place,” said Laura McMahon, executive director of Legal Aid of Marin.

The partnership will hold walk-in legal clinics at Ritter Center on Mondays from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Patients will be able to meet directly with a housing law staff attorney while accessing health care at Ritter Center.
