FRIDAY ART WALKS IN SAN RAFAEL

Fourth Street, San Rafael

Enjoy galleries, open studios, art exhibits, live music and refreshments as you stroll in downtown San Rafael on the second Friday of each month, 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.  Anchored by Art Works Downtown galleries and artist studios, the 2nd Friday Art Walk links venues along downtown Fourth Street in San Rafael, the second Friday of each month. For more information and future art walk dates, go to artworksdowntown.org/events/art-walks. Upcoming walk dates are: 1/11, 2/8, 3/8, 4/12, 5/10, 6/14, 7/12, 8/9, 9/13, 10/11, 11/8, 12/13.

GOLDEN GATE COMPUTER SOCIETY

The Golden Gate Computer Society has many special interest group meetings each month open to everyone. The charge is $5 per event for nonmembers. Meetings cover a variety of topics and technology and take place in Corte Madera, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Larkspur and Greenbrae. MARIN NEEDLE ARTS GUILD

The Marin Needle Arts Guild meets the first Monday of each month at Aldersgate Church Hall, 1 Wellbrock Heights, San Rafael from 4-6 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner.  This group gets together to enjoy creating things with fabric, yarn, beads and more and teaching others. BOOSTING LITERACY

ForWords Fall 2020 virtual learning programs, including writing projects and academic support, are underway for both groups and one to one sessions. English language learners at San Rafael and Terra Linda high schools meet online with the organization during classroom time. Additional after school programs for students at both high schools as well as Davidson Middle School meet four days a week. For information about the different programs, visit forwords.org.

Marin Professionals is a networking and job search center for experienced professionals. The organization continues to offer its 5-Day Re-Employment Workshop online via Zoom throughout the fall. It's also continuing to hold virtual meetings every Monday morning when both current participants and newcomers are able to get assistance from employment experts, recruiter and career coaches. "Falling Open" is an exhibition of handmade artists' books, unbound books in boxes, wall-mounted books, altered books, sculpture and book-inspired objects. "Life Work" is an exhibition in honor of Andrew Romanoff's lifetime of art-making and a new series of watercolor paintings by Bernie Schimbke. RIDE FOR TRIPS FOR KIDS MARIN

THRILLER THURSDAY

North Marin Community Services is hosting "Thriller Thursday," a free, online event on Oct. 29, 5-6:15 p.m. join special guest State Sen. Mike McGuire and others  to hear powerful client stories and help more people in need through the organization's expanded Emergency Rental Assistance Program, the weekly Food Pantry, mental health services and other critical programs that help community members in Marin. CALL FOR HEART OF MARIN NOMINATIONS

Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) has opened their call for nominations for the 28th Annual Heart of Marin Awards. Everyone is encouraged to honor the contributions and achievements of nonprofits and leaders who help the community by submitting nominations online. The deadline for submissions is  Nov. 13 by 5 p.m. at cvnl.org.
