The SF-Marin Food Bank needs volunteers year round to help in their warehouses in Novato and San Francisco. Projects typically involve sorting produce, packaging bulk foods, assembling grocery boxes for seniors, and sorting donations from food drives. The Marin Headlands Nursery team of staff and volunteers grow plants to preserve and restore the Marin Headlands. Volunteer support is the only way that the nursery can succeed and ensure that each plant can get the care it needs to thrive. The nursery is growing over 35,000 plants for the many important projects this year, including Hawk Hill and Rodeo Valley Trail. Make a difference in a child’s life by volunteering to assist new readers build their skills and confidence. Volunteers encourage new readers to engage with library books at a new level by assisting with pronunciation, helping with difficult words, introducing new words, posing and answering questions to increase comprehension and general concepts.  Volunteers read with children at the Pickleweed Library for 1 hour per week on Tuesday evenings. The California Reentry Program at San Quentin State Prison is a nonprofit, independent advising program that seeks to cover a wide array of future parolees’ needs including academic advising, referrals to housing resources, job advice/placement, child-support issues, and support groups.
