The California Reentry Program at San Quentin State Prison is a nonprofit, independent advising program that seeks to cover a wide array of future parolees’ needs including academic advising, referrals to housing resources, job advice/placement, child-support issues, and support groups. They provide one-on-one counseling with inmates who are paroling within the next few weeks, months and years to help assess their current needs, experience and interests, and support them in establishing a plan to achieve their goals once paroled. The mission of Okizu is to help all members of families affected by childhood cancer to heal through peer support, respite, mentoring, and recreational programs. Okizu relies on more than 300 volunteers and 100,000 volunteer hours to make camp a reality each year.
