SUPPORT DURING COVID-19

The Rotary Club of Ignacio awarded $25,000 to North Marin Community Services to assist the local agency in its effort to feed and house those adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Marin County. The check presentation took place on May 13 at the nonprofit’s facility on Novato Blvd. The monies will be used for purchasing supplies for the food pantry, rental assistance and other needed social services. After shelter-in-place orders were issued in many states, Guide Dogs for the Blind began working with its puppy-raising clubs throughout 10 western states to help them move their regular meetings online. The clubs, which are all led by volunteers and are overseen by Guide Dogs for the Blind’s field staff members, provide a structure and framework for teaching puppies foundational skills and good manners. They meet regularly to exchange ideas and work on training techniques. This photo by Jak Wonderly, incorporating all the individual wild animal patients admitted to WildCare that were killed by domestic cats in 2019, won first place in the Human/Nature Category of the 2020 California Academy of Sciences’ BigPicture Photography Contest.  Wonderly, a friend of WildCare, volunteered to take on the project that hopes to cause people to consider measures to protect wildlife from their cats’ hunting. For resources on how to keep both cats and wildlife safe, visit this article: https://www.discoverwildcare.org/wildlife-resources/cats-and-catios.  -Photo courtesy of Jak Wonderly
