Pancake, a 13-year-old stray, came to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue looking for a new forever home. Dr. Cameron Garrett and Debra Garrett, a husband and wife dentist-dental hygienist team and owners of Corte Madera Family Dentistry, adopted Pancake, now Kismet, in August, a month after their previous dental therapy dog died. Kismet, a toothless Chihuahua, goes to the office every work day to help calm the nerves of patients of all ages. Muttville takes in senior dogs, gives them needed medical treatment and gets them ready for adoption and a new lease on life.

The pandemic brought many challenges for Halleck Creek Ranch, a therapeutic riding program in Nicasio. The staff and volunteers worked together to keep the program going in a new way while maintaining the regular care of the horses. Nearby wildfires in mid-August prompted Executive Director Molly Scannell, her staff and volunteers to evacuate the ranch’s 18 horses and two goats who were given a safe place to stay, courtesy of Kevin and Vicky Byers, at Morning Star Farm in Novato (above, top). Now everyone is back at the ranch. The annual “Buckles and Bling” fundraiser, held virtually this year, took place on Sept. 17, emceed by Michael Pritchard (above, middle). The event, attended via Zoom by more than 150 households, brought in nearly $200,000 and counting. I think this is such a great idea!!! having a therapy dog at the dentist. I wish I had one at my dentist. It would help so many people who for being at the dentist is so traumatic…the sounds, the smells, the lights…Thank you for letting people know about this.
