FUNDRAISER FOR FOSTER CARE

The mission of the Marin Foster Care Association is to achieve consistent, safe, quality care for the well being of all foster children by providing services and advocacy to foster and adoptive families, relative and non-relative caregivers. On Oct. 3, the organization hosted its third annual Blues & Brews Marin fundraiser. The virtual event, which raised more than $95,000, included personal delivery of 258 Southern-inspired meals to 98 homes in Marin, San Francisco and the East Bay. Ticket holders also received their choice of beverage, cupcakes and a goody bag that included jam, harmonicas and MFCA face masks.  Pictured are Martin Coyne and Jeff Thornton and goody bags.        -Photos courtesy of Marin Foster Care Association

It’s part of the Mt. Tam Quilt Guild’s mission to promote an interest in and appreciation of the art of quilt making. Craft fairs are normally part of their outreach and fundraising efforts, but cancellations due to COVID have caused them to pivot. In response, the guild produced a children’s book called “Emma, Lucie & the Quilted Animals,”  a creative fundraising effort and portal for reaching a younger generation. Written by guild member Joy Troyer, the book is illustrated with 56 colorful quilts handmade by additional members of the guild. The organization’s members continue to make masks and quilts for distribution to local nonprofit agencies serving Marin residents. Most recently, the guild made and donated masks to MarinHealth, Canal Alliance and Marin City Community Development Corp. In addition to masks, several quilts were donated to Buckelew Services in Novato.  Pictured is Rebecca Kraft of Buckelew Services and the Mt. Tam Quilt Guild new book.   -Photos courtesy of Mt.
