Next Generation Scholars celebrated its college-bound class of 2022 at The READ, a fundraiser held at Hopmonk Tavern in Novato on Sunday, May 22. The gala, which brought together community supporters, the NGS community, students and families, raised over $50,000. All proceeds will benefit the upcoming Summer Academy program.
Keynote speaker and principal of Laurel Dell Elementary School in San Rafael, Pepe Gonzalez, shared his experiences and spoke to the importance of supporting youth as they work to become the first in their families to earn a college degree. Three student speakers shared stories of their inspiring journeys and the importance of NGS in their lives. The evening culminated with the students simultaneously revealing T-shirts displaying the name of the colleges they will be attending.
“Through their own determination and hard work, the support of their families and our staff, and the generosity of our donors, our cohort of graduates are heading off to great colleges and promising futures,” said Jeff Escabar, NGS executive director. “ We are so proud of each and every one of them.”
