CHORUS SUPPORTS CHOIR THAT EASES END OF LIFE

Mayflower Chorus opened its pockets and purses to support Marin Threshold Choir. From left: Marin Threshold Chorus singers Karen Detore, Sharon Hamilton and Jane Chaudhuri receive a donation from Mayflower singers Susan Charlton, Bob Healy and Ann Dill. Photo courtesy of Mayflower Chorus.

Mayflower Chorus singers recently raised funds for another less-visible Marin nonprofit, Threshold Choir.

The Threshold Choir is a group of compassionate singers providing comfort to people near the end of life. In groups of two or three they offer soothing songs and restful harmonies to people facing death, grief or suffering at no charge. Threshold Choir Marin is a local chapter of approximately 100 chapters including San Francisco, Sonoma, Peninsula, Santa Cruz and Bolinas.

“While Mayflower performs in a 300-seat theater, the Threshold Choir singers meet only anguished family members in intimate settings. Their songs of comfort at hospital and hospice bedsides are truly a gift to those suffering,” said Carol Randall of Mayflower Chorus. “We wanted to do whatever we could to support their mission.”

Since 1980, Mayflower Chorus has performed twice annually in Marin and will perform its holiday show, “Shine On,” Dec. 9-10 at Marin Center Showcase Theater.
