Novato Police Department and Novato Parks and Recreation held its second annual special needs safety event at Pocket Park in Novato on April 22. The Star Wars-themed sensory friendly free event provided a chance for families to connect with local organizations that offer services to families of children with special needs, including Matrix Parent Network and Resource Center.

Families showed their enthusiasm for the Star Wars theme by dressing up in their favorite graphic T-shirts and taking pictures with the costumed characters that circulated around the park.

The event, inspired by Novato mom Katie Hughes, offers a chance for Novato law enforcement and local first responders to foster a stronger understanding of the unique safety needs of the disability community. For more information, visit matrixparents.org.
