Marin’s real estate community came together on May 5 at the 16th Annual Kickball Showdown, benefitting Next Generation Scholars. Thirty two real estate companies helped raise over $54,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, a live auction and the generosity of an anonymous matching donor to benefit Marin’s under-resourced youth.

Capitalizing on the fun and competitive spirit between Marin’s commercial and residential real estate sectors, Scott Gerber of Norcal Commercial enlisted the help of other like-minded Realtors to create this unique fundraising event in 2007.

Gerber developed Kickball Showdown as an opportunity for companies and individual agents to show their support, while providing a day of kickball, food and fun for their employees. To date, the Kickball Showdown Committee has collectively raised over $250,000 for Marin’s youth.

“We are proud to stand by Next Generation Scholars, as they work hard to ensure Marin’s students, who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, are shown the way to becoming the first in their families to attend and graduate from college,” Gerber said.

Next Generation Scholars celebrates 20 years of providing a pathway into and through college for Marin’s under-resourced, first generation students. Academic, wellness and leadership programs, coupled with social services for the entire family, has resulted in 164 first generation Marin college alumni, who are giving back to the communities in which they live.
