PARK OUTREACH ROLLS VIA TAM VAN

The Tam Van is a mobile trailhead and education hub that brings information to locations on the mountain and throughout Marin. Photo courtesy of One Tam

Since 2015, One Tam, a partnership that mobilizes the resources of the National Park Service, California State Parks, the Marin Municipal Water District, Marin County Parks and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to ensure a vibrant future for Mount Tamalpais, has taken a creative approach to outreach. The Tam Van is a mobile visitor center retrofitted from a bread truck that travels to park sites and communities across Marin County, providing trail and environmental information to visitors.

Staff and volunteers dispense maps, trail guides, program information and advice on how people can make the most of their visit. The van functions as a visitor center, at a fraction of the cost of constructing a permanent facility, and is able to reach new audiences that find it difficult to get to the parks due to distance or limited transit options.

Throughout July, find the Tam Van at Lake Lagunitas and learn about Marin Water’s forest health work and One Tam’s forest health strategy. For more information, visit onetam.org.
