Marin Community Clinics hosted its annual Summer Solstice Celebration on June 21 at Inn Marin and Suites. Elected officials, community health ambassadors and hundreds of supporters of health care in Marin joined together to honor Grace Hughes and Shirin Vakharia – all while raising funds to benefit the organization’s mission. More than $185,000 was raised to support the clinics’ key initiatives, including $44,500 during the fund-a-need to support dental X-ray equipment and dental chairs for its expanding San Rafael Dental Clinic location.
Hughes, longtime Marin resident, former clinics board member and former Marin Airporter CEO, received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Vakharia, director of Health and Aging for Marin Community Foundation, received the Community Health Champion Award.
“Every staff member up and down the line at Marin Community Clinics serves the most vulnerable in our community – no matter their background or economic status,” said Sen. Mike McGuire, D-Forestville, who spoke at the event. “One out of every five Marin County residents walks through the doors of Marin Community Clinics, and they need us to step-up.”
