Huckleberry Youth Programs is the recipient of a 2023 Golden Bell Community Award in Marin County. San Rafael City Schools selected Huckleberry Youth Programs as an Outstanding Community Partner for providing mental health support in San Rafael school Wellness Centers, conducting health education workshops on a variety of physical and mental health topics, and facilitating groups for newcomer students which address the unique challenges and trauma newcomer youth face including border crossings, experiences of violence in one’s home country, and the complex dynamics of family integration and acculturation.

The Huckleberry ACE (Access to College Equity) Academy, a college and career access program for first-generation, low-income students of color, is also connected to the College and Career Centers at San Rafael and Terra Linda high schools.

The award announcement recognized Huckleberry as a pillar in the Bay Area for over 50 years and in Marin County for over 30 years.

“Huckleberry is extremely grateful for our longstanding and collaborative partnership with our Marin schools and community. We’re honored to work alongside amazing educators and leaders in supporting Marin’s youth and families, and grateful to be part of a great network of providers that support equitable practices for all,” said Priscilla Miranda, Huckleberry’s director of Marin Programs.  “When all youth succeed, our community is stronger.”

Created in 1982, the Golden Bell Awards celebrate public education in Marin County and recognize outstanding certificated teachers and faculty, exceptional classified and confidential staff,  collaborative community partners and student programs, as well as present awards to an exemplary educator, classified employee, teacher and trustee.
