The Rotary Club of San Rafael has been selected as a recipient of a 2026 Golden Bell Award. The California School Boards Association Golden Bell Awards recognize outstanding public education programs, governance and educators across California. For more than 40 years, this award has honored innovative, sustainable and effective programs in areas like curriculum, student support and equity. It highlights best practices that improve student outcomes.

The Golden Bell Awards, hosted locally by the Marin County Office of Education in May, honor outstanding educators, administrators and classified staff for excellence in public education. The awards highlight innovation and dedication. Since 2000, the Rotary Club of San Rafael has donated an estimated $238,000 to innovative transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade programs in San Rafael City Schools, reaching more than 46,000 students. Much of this effort to sustain the Mini-Grants Program via Rotary’s membership has been spearheaded by Rotarian Bob Marcucci.

“The Rotary Club of San Rafael thanks San Rafael City Schools Superintendent Carmen Ghysels for this district-wide recognition,” added Matthew Briggs, San Rafael Rotary president. “Our Mini- Grants Program has been a pillar of our community service for 26 years, allowing us to support SRCS teachers’ best ideas to help children and improve their classrooms and our schools. It is not just an investment in our future, but a labor of love for our many volunteers, some of whom have served the program for decades.”
