MEDIA PARTNER

Marin Independent Journal

Marin Independent Journal is the local source for breaking news, sports, business, classifieds and entertainment for Marin County in print and all digital forms.

Established in 1861, the Marin Independent Journal is an aggressively local media company; it has to be with an actively engaged and sophisticated readership that spans 11 incorporated cities and 19 school districts. In addition to handling traditional geographic and thematic beats (local government, schools, emergency services, health care, politics, business, etc.) the IJ’s reporters and editors are pressed because our area includes significant institutions that demand attention. They include the Golden Gate Bridge; San Quentin State Prison; major hospitals; and state and national parks (such as Muir Woods, Point Reyes, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mount Tamalpais, Angel Island).

We seek to accommodate an astute readership — an audience that sends us more than 3,500 letters to the editor every year — almost all of which we verify, edit and publish. Our op-ed pages feature exclusively local editorials — more than 250 a year — and we run some 400 opinion pieces from community members in addition to submissions from regular local columnists and editorial cartoonists. Our two-person lifestyles staff produces comprehensive daily local calendar listings and centerpiece features most of the week. We produce daily local sports features and intensively cover athletics at two colleges and a dozen high schools. We seek high-quality new and archived photos with virtually every story for online and print.

The business side of the IJ employs sophisticated advertising associates and designers who are skilled in digital and print advertising and marketing solutions. Some of them are part of the Adtaxi digital agency that has formed strategic partnerships with Google and Facebook, in addition to offering innovative, award-winning solutions.

The IJ is part of the fabric of Marin County. The organization is heavily involved within the nonprofit and educational communities, and is one of the charter members of the SchoolsRule campaign.
