WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS FORUM SCHEDULED

On Saturday, May 2, residents are invited to attend the Marin Wildfire Preparedness Public Forum, a countywide event focused on wildfire risk, preparedness and action in Marin, at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael.

Marin’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan will be officially presented to the public at the forum. The event will provide an opportunity for residents to understand the plan, learn from fire safety experts, ask questions of wildfire industry leaders and learn about the wildfire resilience efforts underway across Marin.

The program will include presentations on the new plan and Marin’s wildfire preparedness efforts, followed by a panel discussion and public question and answer session with topic experts. Attendees will also be able to explore information stations covering vegetation management, evacuation planning, detection and alerting, residential risk reduction resources, defensible space and fire-smart landscaping best practices.

The event is intended to help residents connect the larger planning effort with practical information and resources they can use at home and in their neighborhoods.

In addition to the public forum, May 2 will also serve as a broader Day of Action as part of the National Fire Protection Association’s National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Across the country, agencies, nonprofits, fire departments and preparedness partners are encouraging residents to take fire prevention steps before the peak season arrives.
