Schurig Center for Brain Injury Recovery, Marin’s only nonprofit dedicated to helping people thrive after a brain injury, concussion or stroke, held its 14th Annual Brain, Art & Music Gala on May 14 at Peacock Gap in San Rafael. The event raised $250,000 to help Schurig Center continue providing the long- term rehabilitation, support and community that over 600 brain injury survivors and family members rely on each year.
At the heart of the evening were the voices of brain injury survivors and their families, whose testimonials were a powerful reminder that recovery is not defined by what is lost, but by what can be rebuilt beyond the hospital with access to ongoing rehabilitation, support services and a caring community.
Additionally, Schurig Center Board of Directors Chair Catherine Way was honored for 10 years of service and staff member Dusya Wagner was recognized for 15 years of service to the organization.
The event also featured an art gallery silent auction showcasing artwork created by Schurig Center participants and local artists.
“Every story shared at the gala was a reminder that recovery is possible and that hope grows when people come together,” said Executive Director Patricia Gill. “Our community gives survivors more than just services. It gives them encouragement and support to rediscover confidence, purpose and a sense of belonging as they move forward with their lives after injury.”
