This spring, the League of Women Voters of Marin County conducted a fundraiser to support the College of Marin’s Student Transfer Application Fee Fund. The fundraiser raised $16,085 to assist students in continuing their educational journey. This fund- raising effort included a $6,000 match of League funds, along with contributions from League members and friends totaling $10,085.
The Application Transfer Fee Fund plays a crucial role in enabling students to fulfill their aspirations of transferring to a four-year college. The cost of transfer applications can be a significant burden for students who qualify for financial aid. Students with financial need often wish to apply to more schools than the four UC/CSU fee waivers that are available to them.
The actual need for this assistance is significant as 37% of transfer students receive financial aid. While most applications were within the UC/CSU system, students also applied to private schools, including Dominican University, Santa Clara University, Stanford and California College of the Arts.
