New name honors Hunt family legacy
Side by Side hosted a special campus dedication ceremony Aug. 28 to officially rename its San Anselmo campus the J. Patrick Hunt Campus, honoring the lasting legacy and contributions of J. Patrick Hunt, co-founder of Bank of Marin. The Irene M. Hunt School’s name remains unchanged.
Approximately 40 guests attended the dedication, including San Anselmo Mayor Steve Burdo, who is a Side by Side board member, and Julie McMillan, mayor of Ross.
Side by Side CEO Christine Garcia delivered remarks during the ceremony, reflecting on the significance of the campus and the impact of J. Patrick Hunt’s commitment to supporting children, youth and families.
“We named our campus for J. Patrick Hunt — not because he ever wanted the spotlight, but because the young people who will walk these grounds for decades to come deserve to know whose vision and generosity made it possible for them to be here,” Garcia said. “They deserve to know that a man built a bank, and a community, and then turned around and spent that same care making sure kids who had been dealt a bad hand had somewhere safe to land.”
The event was attended by Mr. Hunt’s family, including daughter Catherine Hunt, son and daughter-in-law Joe and Cara Hunt, and grandchildren Joey and Amanda Hunt. The Hunt family also received a tour of the Irene M. Hunt School.
The ceremony concluded with a campus gathering and opportunities for guests to reflect on the organization’s 130-year history and its future.
