Acclaimed chefs will create menu using rescued ingredients

ExtraFood, the Bay Area nonprofit working to end hunger and wasted food, invites the community to A Taste of Hope on Oct. 18 at Marin Country Mart in Larkspur. Rescued food will take center stage in an afternoon of food, entertainment and impact.

This year, A Taste of Hope is becoming a new kind of fundraising event: a culinary experience designed to showcase just how extraordinary rescued food can be. From 3 to 5:30 p.m., acclaimed chef David Murphy, a former Top Chef contestant and co-founder of San Francisco’s celebrated upcycled restaurant Shuggie’s, and culinary partner Kayla Abe will transform perfectly good ingredients rescued through ExtraFood into an inventive, one-time-only menu.

Guests will enjoy tasty bites, live music, stories of impact and auction experiences, all while supporting ExtraFood’s work to rescue surplus food and connect it with people and communities who need it.

“A Taste of Hope gives people the opportunity to experience our mission in a really fun and exciting way. We’re taking food that would otherwise have been wasted and putting it in the hands of world-class chefs who then turn it into something extraordinary” said Will Dittmar, CEO of ExtraFood.

ExtraFood rescues more than 5 million pounds of surplus food every year, increasing equitable access to fresh, healthy food while fighting hunger and preventing perfectly good food from going to waste across San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma Valley.
