Marin Humane held its first free community clinic of the year Feb. 2 through its Pet Safety Net program. The program provides help with veterinary care, vaccinations, nutritious food and other services to pets of Marin residents facing financial hardships. The recently expanded program includes spay/ neuter assistance, free community clinics and pet rental security deposits. Launched in December of 2020, the event marked the 15th clinic at Marin Humane. The program has served more than 1,500 animals.

“These free clinics have the dubious distinction of being extremely popular,” said Marin Humane CEO Nancy McKenney. “People wait in line with their pets for hours which underscores the need here in our county.” Local volunteers from San Marin Animal Hospital in Novato included Dr. Erin Bennett, Dr. Monica Ortiz and Lisa Torres. Dr. Nicole Captanian of Fairfax Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Kat Danielson of The Country Vet in Novato also provided free services including vaccinations, screenings, check-ups and more. Pet Safety Net is funded entirely by donations from individuals as well as sponsors. Sponsors include Marin Subaru, ASPCA, Petco Love, Pets Love the Elderly, Albert Parvin Foundation, Bethlehem Foundation, Bank of Marin, Norma Raab Foundation and the Marin County Nonprofit Community Partners Program.
