Pickleball fundraiser benefits Melissa Prandi Children Foundation
Paddles for Purpose, presented in partnership with Netting Miracles and Flyte Racquet Club, raised more than $8,000 for the Melissa Prandi Children Foundation during a community pickleball fundraiser held at Flyte in San Rafael in August.
“Paddles for Purpose brought our mission to life by bringing the Marin community together for a joyful local event while creating meaningful opportunities and brighter futures for children in Uganda,” said Melissa Prandi, founder and CEO of the Melissa Prandi Children Foundation.
The fundraiser was organized in partnership with Olivia Shekou, a 17-year-old senior at The Branson School and founder of Netting Miracles, a youth-led platform that uses sports and community events to raise awareness and support for nonprofit organizations.
Through Netting Miracles, Shekou has worked to create accessible ways for students to turn an interest in giving back into meaningful action by bringing together young people, community members and nonprofit organizations around causes they care about.
“Olivia brought tremendous energy and initiative to this collaboration,” Prandi said. “Through Netting Miracles, she has created a way for young people to turn their desire to help into something tangible, and it was exciting to see that model support our work in Uganda.”
Friends, families, community members and donors gathered at Flyte to play pickleball and support the foundation’s work. Together, they raised funds to help provide education, nutritious meals, healthcare, menstrual-hygiene resources, mentoring and other support for children and young adults in Uganda.
