Longtime MarinHealth supporters make transformational gift

MarinHealth announced the naming of the Michael and Sharon Stone Family Breast Health Center in recognition of a transformational gift from longtime MarinHealth supporters Mike and Sharon
Stone. The gift, made in support of MarinHealth Foundation’s Building on Excellence campaign to expand the growth and expansion of the hospital’s campus, represents the Stone family’s latest investment in advancing health care for the North Bay and reflects a personal commitment to breast health.

Mike Stone’s connection to breast health began with his mother, Mollie Stone, who survived breast cancer in 1969. Her experience has remained meaningful to the Stones and inspired their longstanding support of breast health services at MarinHealth.

“My mother’s experience with breast cancer has stayed with me throughout my life,” Mike Stone said. “Sharon and I believe strongly in giving back to the community that has given so much to our family. It means a great deal to us to support the physicians, nurses and staff who care for women at MarinHealth and to help ensure that exceptional breast care will be here for generations to come.”

The Stones’ commitment to breast health spans many years. In 2022, MarinHealth Foundation recognized Mike Stone’s generosity by naming the Breast Health Center lobby in honor of his mother. Mike and Sharon Stone also served as co-chairs of the 2025 MarinHealth Foundation Gala, which helped MarinHealth acquire a next-generation tomosynthesis mammography system to advance breast cancer screening and detection.

“Mike and Sharon Stone have been extraordinary partners to MarinHealth for many years, giving not only through their philanthropy, but through their leadership and unwavering commitment to this community,” said Dr. David Klein, CEO of MarinHealth. “Their generosity has touched virtually every area of our organization, and this latest gift carries special meaning because of Mike’s personal connection to breast cancer through his mother.”

Mike Stone has served on the MarinHealth Foundation Board since 2011 and serves as vice chair today, as well as being a member of the Building on Excellence Campaign Cabinet. He also served as co-chair of the foundation’s previous capital campaign, helping lead the philanthropic effort that raised more than $67 million in support of MarinHealth Medical Center’s Oak Pavilion, which opened in 2020.

Over the years, Mike and the Stone family have supported programs, services and advanced technology throughout MarinHealth, including cardiac rehabilitation, outpatient MRI, advanced surgical imaging, orthopedics, vascular surgery, nursing education, cardiovascular care, diabetes care, behavioral health and other priorities.

The Michael and Sharon Stone Family Breast Health Center, located at 100A Drakes Landing Road in Greenbrae, is one of MarinHealth’s highest-volume centers. With more than 20,000 mammography visits each year, the Breast Health Center has the second-highest patient volume at MarinHealth, surpassed only by the Emergency Department. The center provides breast health screening and diagnostic mammography, breast imaging, ultrasound, biopsy and bone density testing.
